GIL-Find (Catalog) allows you to search Henderson Library's collections as well as the collections of other University System of Georgia (USG) campuses. Updated May 2017, the library's new, unified GIL-Find catalog replaces the legacy GIL Classic, GIL-Find, and GIL Universal catalogs.

Log in to Your Library Account & Renew Borrowed Materials

To access your library account in GIL-Find:

1. Click on Sign in in the upper right-hand corner of any screen.

2. Click on the appropriate login link for your borrower status.

3. Login to your account using either your MyGS username and password (Georgia Southern students, faculty, and staff) or your Community Borrower username and password.

Once you are logged in, you will be directed to your List of Active Loans, which includes all of your currently borrowed items. To renew all borrowed items currently eligible for renewal, click Renew All.

Place a Hold Request for Library Materials

By placing a Hold Request, Georgia Southern students, faculty, and staff may request that print books be held for pickup at the Checkout Desk on the second floor of the library. Faculty and staff may also request that books be mailed to their office.

To place a Hold Request, you must first log into your library account in GIL-Find. If you are just starting your search, follow the instructions above so that you will be logged in and ready to place a hold as soon as you find a book that you want to request. If you have already found a book that you want to request but have not logged in yet, follow these instructions:

1. From the Get It tab for the print book you want to request, click Sign-in for More Options.

2. Click on the appropriate login link for your borrower status.

3. Login to your account using your MyGS username and password (Georgia Southern students, faculty, and staff). Once you are logged in, you will be returned to the Get It tab for the book.

4. If the book is eligible for you to request, a Request link will appear next to the Request Options menu on the Get It tab. Click Request.

5. A request form will appear in the Get It tab. Complete the following fields:

Pickup Institution: Select "Georgia Southern University."
Pickup Library: Select "Zach S. Henderson Library." Faculty and staff may also select "Work Address" to have the book mailed to their office.
Not Needed After: Indicate the last day that the book will be useful to you.
Comment: Faculty and staff, provide your office address if you would like the book delivered to you.

6. Once you have completed the form, click Request.

Your Hold Request has been submitted. If other patrons are ahead of you in the Hold Request queue for the book, you will be notified of your place in the queue. 

For students, all books will be held at the Checkout Desk on the second floor of the library for 10 days. You will receive an email when it is ready for pickup. When you pick up your book, tell the staff at the Checkout Desk that a book is "on hold" for you. For faculty and staff, depending on your request, books will be mailed to your office or held at the Checkout Desk for 10 days. You will receive an email when it has been mailed or is ready for pickup. If you have any questions, please contact the Checkout Desk at (912)478-5647.

Request an Item Stored in the ARC

The library stores many older and seldom-used books in the ARC, which is an automated storage system located at the Checkout Desk on the second floor of the library. To request a book from the ARC, you may:

  1. Bring information about the book to the Checkout Desk and request that it be retrieved for you. Tell the staff at the Checkout Desk that you would like to request a book from the ARC.
     
  2. Request that the item be retrieved in advance and held for you at the Checkout Desk. Faculty and staff may also request that books be mailed to their office.

To request an item from the ARC in advance, you must first log into your library account in GIL-Find. If you are just starting your search, follow the instructions above so that you will be logged in and ready to place a request as soon as you find an item that you want. If you have already found a item but haven't logged in yet, follow these instructions:

1. From the Get It tab for the item you want to request, click Sign-in for More Options.

Search All University System of Georgia (USG) Collections

By default, the new GIL-Find searches only Henderson Library's collections. To search all University System of Georgia (USG) collections, change the "scope" of your search by selecting University System of Georgia in the dropdown menu to the right of the search box and clicking Search.

Request Items from Other USG Campuses

Any time an item in your search results is available from another USG campus, GIL-Find will let you know. If you are unable to obtain a copy of an item from the Henderson Library, you may request that the item be delivered from another USG campus to the Henderson Library for pickup.

See what USG campuses own a copy of an item by clicking More Libraries on the Get It tab for the item. To request the item, be sure to sign into your library account first:

Once you have signed into your account, to request an item from another USG campus:

1. Click More Libraries on the Get It tab for the item you want to request.

2. From the Institutions list, select any USG library at which the item is available.

3. Click Request.

4. Select Georgia Southern University as your pickup institution.

5. Complete the form and click Request.

Request Items to be Added to the Library Collection (ON DEMAND)

While searching GIL-Find or Discover @ Georgia Southern, you may notice that some newer books appear with the messages ON DEMAND or "Available by Request." If you would like to read one of these ON DEMAND books, you can request that the library purchase it for the collection and we will notify you when it is available. Most eBooks are available within two business days, while most print books are available within one or two weeks.

In addition to requesting ON DEMAND books, Georgia Southern students, faculty and staff may request any resource by completing the library's online request form. Furthermore, faculty and staff may request books via GOBI by contacting their Library Liaison, or by contacting Debra Skinner at dskinner@georgiasouthern.edu.

Request ON DEMAND books directly in GIL-Find by following the instructions below. For Discover @ Georgia Southern, see these instructions.

When searching GIL-Find, ON DEMAND books appear in your search results like any other result. From the results page, ON DEMAND books include "ON DEMAND" in the Call Number field and "Available by request" in the Location field:

To request an ON DEMAND title:

1. If you are not already logged into your Library account, click on Sign in in the upper right-hand corner of any screen. Click on the appropriate login link for your borrower status. Login to your account using your MyGS username and password (Georgia Southern students, faculty, and staff).

2. Once you are logged in, on the Get It tab for the ON DEMAND title you want to request, click Purchase Request.

3. A request form will appear in the Get It tab. Click Request at the bottom of the form.
