GIL-Find (Catalog) allows you to search Georgia Southern University’s collections as well as the collections of other University System of Georgia (USG) campuses.

Log in to Your Library Account & Renew Borrowed Materials
- From GIL-Find, click to Sign In from the upper right-hand corner of any page.
- Click on the appropriate login link for your borrower status.
- Log in to your account using either your MyGS username and password (Georgia Southern students, faculty, and staff) or your Community Borrower username and password.
Once you are logged in,
- Access your account from the from the upper right-hand corner of any page. An Overview screen will appear, showing a limited view of all of your currently borrowed items.
- Either click Renew All to renew everything, or click Loans to renew selected items. To renew selected items only, check the box for each item you'd like to renew, then click Renew Selected.
Place a Hold Request for Library Materials
By placing a Hold Request, Georgia Southern students, faculty, and staff may request that print books be held for them for pickup at the Checkout Desk on the second floor of the library. Faculty and staff may also request that books be mailed to their office.
To place a Hold Request, you must first log into your library account in GIL-Find. If you are just starting your search, follow the instructions above so that you will be logged in and ready to place a hold as soon as you find a book that you want to request. If you have already found a book that you want to request but have not logged in yet, follow these instructions:
1. On the details page of the print book for which you would like to place a hold request, click Log in for More Services.
2. Click on the appropriate login link for your borrower status.
3. Login to your account using your MyGS username and password (Georgia Southern students, faculty, and staff). Once you are logged in, you will be returned to the Results page for the book.
4. Click on the Title of the book, or the ‘Available at’ link to retrieve the detailed record of the book.
5. If the book is eligible for you to request, a Request link will appear in the Get It section above the holdings information for the item. Click Request.
6. A request form will appear in place of the holdings information. Complete the following fields:
- Pickup Institution: Select "Georgia Southern University."
- Pickup Library: Select Select "Zach S. Henderson Library" or "Lane Library." Liberty Center students, faculty and staff should select "Lane Library" and add "Will pick up at Liberty Center" to the comments field. Faculty and staff may select "Work Address" to have the book mailed to their office.
- Not Needed After: Indicate the last day that the book will be useful to you.
- Comment: Faculty and staff, provide your office address if you would like the book delivered to you.
7. Once you have completed the form, click Request.
Your Hold Request has been submitted. If other patrons are ahead of you in the Hold Request queue for the book, you will be notified of your place in the queue.
For students, all books will be held at the Checkout Desk on the second floor of the library for 10 days. You will receive an email when it is ready for pickup. When you pick up your book, tell the staff at the Checkout Desk that a book is "on hold" for you. For faculty and staff, depending on your request, books will be mailed to your office or held at the Checkout Desk for 10 days. You will receive an email when it has been mailed or is ready for pickup.

Search for All Available Catalog Results at Georgia Southern University
To see all available results in the GIL-Find catalog at Georgia Southern University, follow these instructions:
- From the GIL-Find (Catalog) basic search screen, type 99104* into the search form and click the Search icon.
- The result list will include all available results for the Georgia Southern University Libraries.
- To refine your result, add or remove search filters from the left-hand menu or from the Advanced Search menu.
Searching for 99104* allows you to see all results in the catalog for a particular resource format, date range, location, subject, genre, etc. This search is only available for results at Georgia Southern University and is not available for all results in the University System of Georgia (USG) collections.

Request an Item Stored in the ARC
The library stores many older and seldom-used books in the ARC, which is an automated storage system located at the Checkout Desk on the second floor of the library. To request a book from the ARC, you may:
- Bring information about the book to the Checkout Desk and request that it be retrieved for you. Tell the staff at the Checkout Desk that you would like to request a book from the ARC, or
- Request that the item be retrieved in advance and held for you at the Checkout Desk. Faculty and staff may also request that books be mailed to their office.
To request an item from the ARC in advance, you must first log into your library account in GIL-Find. If you are just starting your search, follow the instructions above so that you will be logged in and ready to place a request as soon as you find an item that you want. If you have already found a item but haven't logged in yet, follow these instructions:
1. From the Results page, for the item you want to request, click on the Title or the ‘Available at’ link.
2. Click Log In for Services on the detail page for the item you want to request.
3. Click on the appropriate login link for your borrower status.
4. Login to your account using your MyGS username and password (Georgia Southern students, faculty, and staff).
5. If the book is eligible for you to place a request, a Request link will appear in the Get It section above the holdings information for the item. Click Request.
6. A request form will appear in the Get It section. Complete the following fields:
- Pickup Institution: Select "Georgia Southern University."
- Pickup Library: Select Select "Zach S. Henderson Library" or "Lane Library." Liberty Center students, faculty and staff should select "Lane Library" and add "Will pick up at Liberty Center" to the comments field. Faculty and staff may select "Work Address" to have the book mailed to their office.

Search All University System of Georgia (USG) Collections
By default, GIL-Find searches only Georgia Southern’s collections. To search all University System of Georgia (USG) collections, change the "scope" of your search by selecting University System of Georgia in the dropdown menu to the right of the search box and clicking Search.
Request Items from Other USG Campuses (via GIL-Express)
Any time an item in your search results is available from another USG campus, GIL-Find will let you know. If you are unable to obtain a copy of an item from Georgia Southern, you may request that the item be delivered from another USG campus to Georgia Southern for pickup via GIL-Express.
See what USG campuses own a copy of an item by looking at the Request from Other USG Libraries section in the detail record. To request the item, be sure to log in to your library account first:
- In the Request from Other USG Libraries section below the How to Get It section, click on the name of a USG institution to see if their copy can be requested via GIL-Express. If their copy is available to request, then a request button will appear.
- Click Request to request the item.
3. Select Georgia Southern University as your pickup institution.
4. Complete the form and click Request.
The item will be shipped to the appropriate library. You will be notified when it is available for pickup.

Suggest additions to the Libraries' collections using GIL-Find
The GIL-Find catalog includes many ebooks that are available for preview via the Ebook Central (ProQuest) database. The University Libraries don't currently own these ebooks, but you may suggest the Libraries purchase a title if you think we should add it to our collection.
